what is a cam and groove coupling? 

Cam groove coupling, also known as cam lock connection, is a type of hose coupling. This type of coupling is popular because it provides an easy and reliable way to quickly connect and disconnect hoses  without tools.

Traditionally manufactured to U.S. military specification MIL-C-27487, this specification includes dimensional and machining tolerances, materials, tightening torques, part numbers, pressure ratings, workmanship, inspection procedures, and packaging requirements. I did. Compliance with this specification ensures compatibility of parts from different manufacturers. 

In 1998,  specification A-A-59326 replaced his MIL-C-27487. In Europe, the  BS EN 14420-7 standard and the German standard DIN 2828 apply. Products manufactured according to DIN 2828 are compatible with products manufactured according to the original MIL-C-27487, but there are differences in the construction of the hose nozzle. How can and groove works

 A cam at the end of each lever on the female side aligns with a circumferential groove on the male side. When the lever is rotated to the locked position,  the male end is pulled into the female socket, forming a tight seal against  the female socket's gasket. 

The arms lock into place using an over-center shape to prevent accidental uncoupling. Additionally, lever locking pins are a common feature for added safety, and a "self-locking" lever on the female side is also available. 

Because the groove is cut completely around the male end, no special direction of rotation is required for mating, and there is no possibility of threads crossing, as is the case with threaded connections. 

This provides a fast and fail-safe merge process. The compression between the two fittings is limited by the size of the cam at the end of the lever and the rotation of the lever itself, so there's also no chance of the fitting becoming too tight or too tight. 

Components of camlocks

The pressure on the seal remains nearly constant until the next coupling operation, reducing the  possibility of leaks. Cam and groove fittings are commonly available in a variety of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and polypropylene 

Cam-and-groove couplings are often used in moderately contaminated environments, such as septic  pump trucks and chemical or fuel tank trucks, because there are no screws to get dirty. 

This system is particularly suitable for situations where frequent hose changes  are required, such as tank trucks. As an example of industrial applications, cam-and-groove fittings may be used in systems where  chemical drums are quickly filled, or in factories where dye, paint, or ink media transfer is required.
